I'm saying technology has given everyone an avenue to express their views, broadcast themselves, flirt with people, game with people etc. that we're neglecting some established meatspace devices..

That is all[tRiaD]https://www.blogger.com/profile/05598956146230740326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37356706.post-53126931257778515792007-11-10T11:30:00.000-08:002007-11-10T11:30:00.000-08:00ello.Yes but my point is Youtube isn't the problem...ello.
Yes but my point is Youtube isn't the problem either. YouTube's role in this whole thing is minimal. All they do is play HIS views, which as the terms of use have shown, they a) dont claim to support/endorse and b) can choose NOT to show if they wanted to, as they have.
By the time these guys have reached their state of emotional or mental intensity, there's very little anyone can do. The point is, before a community labels YouTube as some sort of source of the spread of such ideas, it should try and see what IT could've done or should've done. Granted the kid should probably have chosen a different method 2 make himself heard, but that is in no way YouTube, or MySpace fault.
If at all either of the communities CAN help the guy is if he's able to see that maybe he isn't alone and gain some sort of objectivity from the thoughts, which as both the killers admitted were held only in their own minds.Harryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01925924841004513935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37356706.post-53547687512930663702007-11-10T11:04:00.000-08:002007-11-10T11:04:00.000-08:00Remember the Korean kid? (An Indian origin professor was killed too, I think)

Did you see that kid's video that he sent to news channels? Now that was some seriously screwy stuff.

"You have vandalized my heart, raped my soul and torched my conscience. You thought it was one pathetic boy's life you were extinguishing. Thanks to you, I die like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of the weak and the defenceless people."

This is an extract from his video. That's some scary stuff. No amount of tolerance can sort this out. These people need to reach out for help themselves. There are enough helplines and counsellors in this world that can TRY to help them. The only way to find out if they actually can is by going to them.

But, how does one get the troubled to reach out? youtube isn't the answer.[tRiaD]https://www.blogger.com/profile/05598956146230740326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37356706.post-80800421496965338542007-11-09T06:46:00.000-08:002007-11-09T06:46:00.000-08:00You know what they say about children often being ...You know what they say about children often being the most cruel to other children? I believe that it's true. There are a number of people who can vouch for that, because we all grow up with insecurities that our school friends and our peers inflict on us, with or without realising it.

It's terribly sad that more and more kids/teens are resorting to killing to make themselves a space in the world. I suppose the least we can do is be a little more accepting of peoples' flaws on a daily basis.

Great post, nice analysis.Quaint Murmurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12869482006532388065noreply@blogger.com
